Further to our previous notice concerning the vote on March 10 and voting locations, we are still unable to give you the voting locations because they must first be officially announced by CUPE National, who are responsible for administering the vote.
We have since been informed by CUPE that the earlier voting locations are to be changed, and that additional location changes are also possible. We will inform members of the final decision on polling locations when they are officially announced by CUPE.
The Library Division Executive is continuing to ask CUPE to locate polling stations in libraries. This would make it easier for all library union members to vote.
The Library Division Executive continues to ask that polling stations be located in large libraries, including TRL and North YorkV Central Library, and at a minimum of one large library in the East and West regions respectively.
The Local 416 outside worker representatives are opposed to voting taking place in libraries.
CUPE has stated that the vote result should be representative of the wishes of the entire membership. This makes sense to us, and that is why voting should take place at our workplace, so everyone can easily vote.
The final decision on voting locations will be made by CUPE. We will keep you informed.
