We reported previously that members of the Library Division Executive met with the Local 416 President and Vice-President and representatives of CUPE National. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a proposal that would allow us to start bargaining before our new Toronto Public Library Workers Union (TPLWU) charter is received from CUPE. At that meeting no agreement was reached due to the introduction by President Ferguson of additional conditions that were not acceptable to us in the Library Division. President Ferguson has reconsidered his position, and has now agreed to the original proposal which means that we are now able to proceed and begin negotiations with the Employer. The Library Division Executive will be finalizing our package of proposals, meeting with our newly assigned CUPE representatives (Sarah DeClerck, Joan Hanton), and setting up a first meeting with the Employer as soon as possible to exchange proposals.
