Your Bargaining Committee needs a strong strike mandate to reach a
fair settlement.

The Library Board’s proposals:
- Open hours to midnight, almost no librarians, staffed with 90% part-time workers.
- More deskilled part-time workers with few or no benefits.
- More self-service check-out machines, fewer workers and fewer reference desks.
- Hiring external workers instead of promoting current workers.
- More restrictions on flexible hours.
- Generalist jobs instead of specialized jobs.
- US business models for the library like the San Jose Way.

Your Bargaining Committee will do everything possible at the bargaining table to avert a strike and bargain a fair settlement. We need a strong strike vote to put pressure on the employer.

The Library Board has a multi-million dollar plan to extend open hours yet claims not to be able to address understaffing, full-time jobs and equality for part-time workers.
