On Wednesday night, over 90 supporters gathered at the historic Pilot Tavern to launch the Toronto Public Library Workers Union public campaign, "People Make Libraries Work." Local 4948 members from across the system came out to join friends, family, and other trade unionists for a fabulous evening of food, drink, rousing speeches and prizes.
Notable speakers included John Cartwright, President of the Toronto and York Region Labour Council, and Vanda Klumper, Chair of the Bargaining Committee for OPSEU's LCBO Division. Joining them on the podium were Local 4948 President, Rob Rolfe, Bargaining Committee Chair, Maureen O'Reilly, Executive Board member, Nahid Rahnavard, Master of Ceremonies, Beatriz Hausner, and Strike Co-Chair, Jinkie David.
It was inspiring to see so many new faces - young members coming out to join the regular activists, as well as rank and file members attending a union function for the first time.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to show their support. The paparazzi were out in full force - photos will be available soon.
Don't forget to visit our campaign website at http://www.peoplemakelibrarieswork.ca/ and forward this link to friends, family and other supporters...........and stay tuned as the public campaign moves forward.
In Solidarity,
The Local 4948 Bargaining Committee
