Labour Day 2011: Thanks to all the Local 4948 members, their family, and friends who came out for the Labour Day Parade to celebrate both the history and future of workers in Toronto, and to honour the late Jack Layton - whose work we must continue. What a great turnout! And . . . no rain! This year, we were marching to the beat of the Eagleheart Drummers - the crowds lining Queen Street really enjoyed them as well. Our youngest participants had fun reaching out to children watching the parade and presenting them with a Library Workers "I Love Reading" ball.
As our campaign to save our public library moves forward, it was particularly wonderful to hear enthusiastic cheers from spectators when the library workers marched by - the public's support is overwhelming - and continues to assist us in our efforts. Thank you, Toronto!
