Cuts to staff hurt library services. Torontonians have said very clearly that they do not support cuts to libraries. The Union, TPWLU Local 4948, is committed to protecting and improving the public library services that Torontonians value and depend on.
On Monday, December 12th, the Toronto Public Library Board will vote on whether to cut another 60 positions on top of the 100 positions that the Board voted to cut in October (this on top of the 198 positions that have been cut since amalgamation).
Cuts to staff will affect all members of TPLWU Local 4948.
What can you do?
1. Encourage library supporters to write to the Chair of the Toronto Public Library Board, Councillor Paul Ainslie to tell him that Torontonians do not support cuts to public libraries or to the staff that deliver library services. Email councillor_ainslie@toronto.ca
2. Register your family, friends and neighbours to give a deputation at the Toronto Public Library Board on December 12th by writing to Nancy Marshall at nmarshall@torontopubliclibrary.ca. The Board meeting starts at 6pm at the Toronto Reference Library, Board room, 789 Yonge Street.
