Reason No. 1
In a new library workers local, we can give our full attention to the many pressing issues facing us as library workers, and fully protect our pay equity settlement and collective agreement
Reason No. 2
In a new library workers local, we will have complete control over our own finances and internal resources to focus entirely on library workers issues to deal more effectively with the needs of our members
Reason No. 3
In a new library workers local, we will be an extremely viable union, the largest CUPE library local in Canada, capable of playing a key role in setting an agenda for library workers across the country
Reason No. 4
In a new library workers local, we will develop our own vision and strategy for library workers, at a time when our fundamental rights and working conditions are under attack (eg fewer full-time jobs, gapping, later working hours, San Jose Way)

In a new library workers local, we will no longer be distracted from our main goal of protecting library workers by the divisive internal politics occurring within some of the Outside Units in Local 416
“STRONGER TOGETHER” – WHAT HAS CHANGED?

We were “stronger together” when we were led by a strong and united leadership that respected the rights and needs of all members, including library workers

We were “stronger together” when we were not forced to contend with so many internal fights in the union, that weaken our ability to defend the rights and working conditions of all members
Reason No. 8
We were “stronger together” when the contributions of library workers in Local 416 were fully respected
WHY IS LOCAL 416 NO LONGER UNITED?
Reason No. 9
There are major structural problems in Local 416 that disadvantage all members and make it very difficult for library workers to fully participate in the union
Reason No. 10
The increasingly divisive actions of some members and Local 416 leaders who want more power for themselves put all of us at risk as we enter into collective bargaining
Reason No. 11
The recent leadership changes in Local 416 have led to an alarming lack of support for library workers among some members of the Local 416 Executive Board
Reason No. 12
There has been no attempt by the new Local 416 leadership to create an environment where we can discuss legitimate and long-standing concerns we have as library workers
Reason No. 13
The current Local 416 leadership opposes our constitutional right as CUPE library workers to determine for ourselves what is the best way to represent our own members
Reason No. 14
Most importantly, the trust and mutual respect that was the basis for library workers joining Local 416 has broken down
For all of the these reasons your Library Division Executive strongly recommends you vote “YES” to a new library local for TPL workers!
