The Union received a number of questions from members who missed the original internal posting. We did investigate with the employer who confirmed that they did not send out an advance notice for this posting as they have done in the past.
At present, there is no language in the collective agreement to compel the employer to do this. However, our members had come to rely on this. Furthermore, the Union's Sunday Work committee was not notified of any change to this long-standing practice.
The employer has confirmed with the Union that, in future, they will email an advance notice of the intent to post Sunday work, that the Sunday posting will appear on a single job posting announcement (not in a list of other regular job postings), and that the Union's Sunday Work committee will be contacted in advance if there are any changes to this practice.
