Respect Scarborough Community Event

On Saturday, December 3, library workers attended the Respect Scarborough community event organized by the Toronto Labour Council.  Over 200 Scarborough residents attended to share their views on the Ford administration's proposed cuts to services.  Residents joined focus groups arranged by both services and by City Wards to discuss strategies on getting their local councillor to listen. 

Big cheers went up for Councillor Raymond Cho Ward 42 and for Councillor Shelley Carroll Ward 33 who attended this event.

Scarborough councillors who were absent from this event (including Ward 43 Paul Ainslie, Ward 37 Michael Thompson, Ward 44 Ron Moeser, Ward 41 Chin Lee, Ward 35 Michelle Berardinetti, Ward 36 Gary Crawford, Ward 39 Mike Del Grande) missed the opportunity to hear from their constituents who spoke at length about what the proposed cuts would mean to them as Scarborough residents.

Scarborough residents had plenty to say about proposed cuts to the public library. Scarborough councillor Mike Del Grande's recent comments to the media questioning the number of items the library carries in languages other than English had obviously angered residents - including those from his own ward.
