On Sunday, TPLWU Local 4948 was asked to be a panelist at the Library Sectoral meeting to talk about our campaign.
Later that same day we were also invited to speak at the Municipal Sectoral meeting about our plight in Toronto.
On Monday, National President Paul Moist highlighted the TPLWU campaign in his opening speech to convention.
On Tuesday morning, the convention viewed our campaign video. It's an awesome sight projected 20 feet high!
On Wednesday, library workers from across Canada met informally at a local pub for lunch to share our stories. Public libraries are under attack across Canada. Our public library is being threatened by the loss of workers who deliver front line service and by the depersonalized aggressive use of technology to replace workers.
On Thursday, Resolution 55, to form a National Library Worker Committee, finally hit the convention floor and passed soundly. President O'Reilly was first up on the mikes asking convention delegates to support a national voice for library workers.
Later that night, the Vancouver Public Library workers hosted a tour of the great Vancouver Public Library. Library workers from across Canada joined together again. Many valuable networking opportunities have been formed and will serve us well in the future.
On Friday, the Convention was entertained by the Convention choir where our own Mary Bissell performed.
One of the button vendors at the connection provided the TPLWU caucus with "The Pen is Mightier Than the Ford" buttons in our honour.
Our members should be heartened by the Canada-wide awareness of our campaign and recognition of the work we have done to battle Mayor Ford. We truly have the support of workers coast to coast.
